I attempted to delete a managed solution in my test environment of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and halfway through the process, it failed with a SQL server error below.
After downloading the log file, it mentioned a “Generic SQL error”, which did not help much in identifying the cause of the issue.
So, I turned on Dynamics CRM tracing and reviewed the file. I noticed there was a CRM exception error:“Crm Exception: Message: SQL timeout expired., ErrorCode: -2147204783, InnerException: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. —> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): The wait operation timed out”
The error above suggested we need to increase our time-out values since it is a big solution and requires more time to complete the delete process in Dynamics CRM.
Hence, I used this Microsoft KB article, A time-out occurs when you import large customization files into Microsoft Dynamics CRM, and after applying method 1, my managed solution was deleted successfully in Dynamics CRM.
I recommend to delete the registry keys afterward since extending the time-out values is not good for the overall performance.
