New Advanced Find filter criteria “Under” and “Not Under” in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015

By - April 9, 2015

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 is shaping to be a much better upgrade than its previous predecessors. Along with some new functionalities, one concept that stood out for me is the ability to layout your data in a hierarchical diagram and display the information in Dynamics CRM. But beyond that, you now have a new way to easily query that data using Advanced Find new filters, “Under” and “Not Under.”

Here is a prime example of how a potential organization Dynamics CRM data diagram looks:

New Advanced Find Filter 1

Notice you have the parent company RSM LLP, followed by four regions (Midwest, NorthEast, South, West). Next, below you have RSM Midwest and its sub divisions, consulting and tax.

Then for RSM East, you also have two sub divisions, consulting & tax.

So, I am an Account manager in Dynamics CRM and I want to know how many divisions or sub accounts of RSM LLP that are consulting. One option is to do a regular Advanced Find on all the regions and bring back those sub accounts, but that would be doing multiple queries or a very long tricky one.

With the new ability to query using “under,” you can now do it faster and easier with Advanced Find.

Here is the result of my above Advanced Find:

As you can see, this new capability to query data from your hierarchy diagram is a simplify way to return the data in records relationships.

While the above is just one scenario, using “under” and “not under” is useful in other queries such as seeing how many contacts are related to an account vendor which is connected to the buyer’s account, or who are the sales reps under a certain manager in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.  Adding the hierarchy chart model in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 to records is fresh and improved the dashboard experience, but combining that with the ability to query data to gain valuable business insights makes it a useful utility in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015.
