A new version is coming out, why implement now?

With the onset of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, which was just announced on July 2nd, many people may be asking why implement now rather than waiting for the new system.  This seems to make sense to wait, but if you think about it, with the tasks you have in front of you to get the system in place, the timing may be perfect.

If a data migration is going to take place, this has to be planned.  New fields have to be added to the entities.  We know this is all going to upgrade smoothly.  With Dynamics CRM 2011 Rollup 12, we already have the new forms for Contacts, Accounts, Leads, Opportunities and Cases.  These forms can be viewed, used by the user and trained on with not much modification when moving to Dynamics CRM 2013.  It would make sense to hold off on building custom functionality and since scripting in not available on the new user interface (UI) forms in Dynamics CRM 2011, we don’t have to worry about any JavaScript customizations that will break.  This will allow you to implement the core functionality of the system.  If you read my blog on implementing CRM with a Hybrid Agile Approach, you could have fully completed sprint one and two prior to upgrading to Dynamics CRM 2013.

We all know the sooner a system is implemented, the sooner we start to get good information.  Dynamics CRM 2011 already has the dashboards and reports built into it.  It only makes sense to get your ROI sooner rather than later.
