Microsoft Announces Intune Premium Suite

By - December 19, 2022

At this year’s Microsoft Ignite 2022 conference, the tech giant announced that a new, premium version of their Microsoft Intune service will be rolling out in March of 2023. The Microsoft Intune Premium Suite will include Endpoint Privilege Management, Remote Help, Microsoft Tunnel for Mobile App Management, advanced endpoint analytics capabilities, and more features that are planned to be added throughout 2023.

Currently, Intune is a cloud-based service that focuses on mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM). For organizations that provide devices such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops to students or employees, securing those endpoints is of paramount importance. Intune allows an organization to control how devices within its network are used, as well as configure specific policies to control applications. Additionally, individuals within the organization can also enroll their personal devices in Intune. On personal devices, Intune helps make sure that the organization’s data stays protected and can isolate organization data from personal data. The new service level coming in 2023 will build on these existing features.

First, Intune Premium Suite will introduce Remote Help for Windows and Android, improving the Remote Help solution that launched on Windows in April of 2022. The service will incorporate ServiceNow integration, improved compliance messaging, enhanced elevation, and support for Android devices. Additionally, IT admins will be able to hear audio from an employee while providing remote assistance.

In January of next year, Microsoft will hold a public preview the new Microsoft Endpoint privilege management solution. The service will automatically manage and elevate standard users’ permissions to administrator status, allowing them to perform specific tasks on Windows cloud-connected and co-managed endpoints. Employees will be able to install applications, printers, and other peripheral devices without requiring permission from an administrator. Endpoint privilege management will be available both as an add-on for existing Intune subscribers and as a part of the Intune Premium Suite.

Next is the Microsoft Tunnel for mobile application management (MAM) feature, which allows users to securely access on-premises apps and resources on their unmanaged Android and iOS devices. This feature eliminates the device enrollment requirement for users, making it much easier to connect a personal device to an organization’s network without sacrificing security. Additionally, the removal of the enrollment requirement will also help reduce costs. Tunnel for MAM will be available as an add-on for customers with an existing Intune subscription in January, and it will also be bundled with the Intune Premium Suite in March 2023.

Additionally, several new advanced analytics capabilities will be included with Intune Premium Suite, including anomaly detection. The feature will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically notify IT admins about potential problems, such as hardware failures, app crashes, unexpected reboots, and more. Anomaly detection will help administrators proactively mitigate critical issues that could disrupt operations, improving the organization’s security.

Finally, the Intune Premium Suite will allow IT admins to manage, configure, and protect specialty devices such as RealWear. With a comprehensive catalog of apps and options that make it easier for administrators to patch third-party apps automatically, this feature is suited for any organization that makes use of non-Microsoft applications.

Microsoft Intune Premium Suite will be available as an upgrade for all enterprise customers with a Microsoft Intune subscription (including Microsoft 365 E3 and E5). As a current Microsoft partner, RSM is extremely excited for the options and versatility offered through this new service.
