How Multilingual Training Can Influence a Culturally Diverse Audience

By - October 31, 2018

Although challenging to provide training to a multilingual audience, it is vital to do so in an increasingly global community. The following points illustrate how to provide optimal instructor-led or eLearning training experience for a culturally diverse audience:

  1. Translation Accuracy: When training a multilingual audience, accurate translation is very important. For example, English to Spanish translation software for closed captioning can provide accurate translation to Spanish-speaking audience.  Translation accuracy in captioning would also be important for eLearning modules, and this would ensure that the modules’ training messages would effectively reach a culturally diverse audience.
  1. Relevant Content: Consider how the training is culturally relevant to its audience. Relevant content will keep its audience engaged and interested, so it is vital to tailor the training content to its specific cultural audience.
  1. Attention to Detail: Paying attention to the culturally appropriate details of the training will also ensure that the appropriate messages are reaching its audience. An example of this would be a trainer gaining knowledge of his or her target audience as a mark of respect to foster a collaborative and inclusive learning experience. It is also important to consider the use of images in training material and eLearning. These should be considered through a lens of the culture viewing the image to determine if there is anything potentially offensive.

Translation accuracy, relevant training content, and attention to culturally-specific details within the training can all work together to influence how training types and tools can reach a multilingual audience.  It is also of utmost importance that these components work together to provide an optimal training experience to the audience.
