3. New Minimum Wage Rates for Federal Contractors Announced

Starting January 1, 2025, the U.S. Department of Labor will implement new minimum wage rates for federal contractors. The updated rates will range from $9.30 per hour for tipped workers to $17.75 per hour for other roles, ensuring fair compensation across the board.

4. Joint Operations in the South China Sea

Forces from Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, and the U.S. have conducted joint operations in the South China Sea. These exercises, held within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone, aim to enhance interoperability and uphold freedom of navigation and overflight in the region.

5. National Guard’s Hurricane Relief Efforts

In response to Hurricane Helene, the National Guard has deployed around 6,700 guardsmen from 16 states to assist with recovery efforts in the American Southeast. Their missions include highwater rescues, debris removal, and distributing disaster relief supplies.
