Did you know that Microsoft Teams Phone Numbers can be used to make calls from any device with Teams accessibility? When taking a look at the Windows desktop client for Teams, users can leverage their Teams Phone number as the default calling application when making calls on their device. The Teams Click-To-Call feature can help save the extra step of needing to copy a phone number into a Dialpad by utilizing hyperlinked numbers across your work environment. Whether you’re initiating a call from a Google search, an Outlook Message, or other platforms or sites on your laptop or desktop environment, you can have Microsoft Teams handle making the call.
Continue reading below to learn how to best utilize the Click-To-Call features in Microsoft Teams!
Where do I start?
To set up Click-To-Call, you’ll need to access a few things in your Windows device settings.
Navigate to Settings, select Apps, and under this pane select Default Apps (directly underneath the Apps & features tab).
When in the Default apps menu, scroll to the bottom and click Choose default apps by protocol. You’ll then be greeted with a list of apps and protocols.
Manage Your Current Default Apps by Protocol
Scroll through this list and look for the following three protocols: SIP, SIPS, and TEL. You’ll then have the option to Choose a default or change the current default for these protocols.
For each protocol, select the default application to be Teams and verify that all three protocols have Teams as the default.
How do I use Click-To-Call?
When you’ve finished applying these settings, you’ll now be able to call numbers directly from a Google search, an Outlook message, and more. Upon selecting an applicable number, you’ll be redirected to Microsoft Teams to call the number you have selected. To ensure a proper redirect, make sure to select Open in the pop-up menu that displays when a site is trying to open Microsoft Teams. Upon the redirect to your Microsoft Teams application, you’ll be able to click Call to initiate the call.
Once you’ve applied these settings and verified that your calling options work, this feature will be available to use whenever you may need!
