One of the great new features included in the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 release is an improvement to Identity Management. In this version, Microsoft has built in compatibility with Azure Active Directory in the Dynamics GP web client. Now I know what you’re thinking, why do I care?
This move makes Dynamics GP a much more viable cloud offering. Azure Active Directory is the same service which provides the back-end user control for Office 365 and Dynamics CRM online, and it has ties to over 2000 other cloud services. This gives you the ability to have one online identity which allows you access to Microsoft Office, Dynamics CRM, Dynamics GP and many other cloud offerings like Microsoft Box. Users will love it because they don’t have to remember thirty different accounts and passwords. From the IT side, it also makes administration a breeze since they will have control over these users in one location as opposed to the multitude of locations which exist in world today.
In cases where your Dynamics GP and CRM aren’t integrated, imagine working from home using the Dynamics GP web client when you realize you need to check some client information that is stored in Dynamics CRM. All you need to do is open up a new tab in internet explorer and open your Dynamics CRM online link. From here, we grab our client information, say an email address, and launch into our Outlook web access portal in a new tab. With a simple copy paste, we enter our client’s email and send an email which contains the invoice number in question and the questions we have for the client. All of this without having to enter our credentials. It functions like one seamless experience with the integration to Azure Active Directory! How cool is that!
