Google Is Issuing Ad Credits for Small-to-Medium Sized Business

By - April 29, 2020

As all businesses grapple with the new reality of remote business operations, there are new opportunities for small and mid-size businesses (SMBs) cropping up every day. One new program that RSM clients may be particularly interested in is a new ad credit that Google is issuing to SMBs. They have implemented this program to help small to medium-sized businesses deal stay in touch with their customers, and continue to use their platform for advertising. This ad credit can be extremely helpful for small and mid-sized clients during a tough economic time. These ad credits will be applied to future ad spend (they cannot be applied to already billed/invoiced or current ad spend), and are applicable across the Google Ads platform.

In order to qualify for this ad credit, you will need to have had an active spend with Google Ads for ten out of the twelve months of 2019, as well as in January and February of this year.

Clients do not need to take any action to receive this credit. In fact, the credit will automatically be applied to your account. Google will begin issuing these ad credits starting late in May, and will begin rolling them out in phases over the next few months. Once the credit has been applied to your account you will be notified and it will remain available to spend until the end of 2020.

One bit of ambiguity we are seeing around this program is how much of a credit our clients will receive. Google has stated that the ad credit will vary by customer based on their past ad spend. Overall, Google’s investment in this program will be $340 million worldwide.
