We are more frequently implementing third party packages to open Microsoft Dynamics CRM up to function in professional services organizations such as engineering, consulting and accounting firms. This may at first feel like a round peg in a square hole. It is actually a perfect example of the xRM functionality of Dynamics CRM.
As you would expect, the basis of the Professional Services Application (PSA) is accounts, contacts and users. The users end up being your internal personnel. The accounts are what project records are tied to. With the project records, you can plan time, service types and actual personnel. You are able to produce a resource chart that spans multiple projects.
As an end user, you are able to put in time and expenses for projects. Reports are able to be run to look at availability. Project managers assigned to projects are able to approve time and expenses prior to billing. Invoices are produced right from the system after time and expenses are approved.
The product we are using most often is Assistance Software. Because the application is written on top of Dynamics CRM, all the functionality you come to expect from Dynamics CRM can be used to enhance the process for the end users. This includes workflow, customizing the fields, reports and views.
