How to enable logging in the Connector For Microsoft Dynamics CRM

By - December 23, 2014

When running integrations for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 using the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics, you may see error messages in the map log indicating “Check the exception log for more details”. It is not well documented where this log is located – here is how to find it.

First, logging must be enabled – to do this navigate to c:program files(x86)Microsoft DynamicsMicrosoft Dynamics Adapter.

Locate the following files:

  • ConnectorServiceHost.exe.config
  • Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.Adapters.Crm2011.Configuration.exe.config
  • Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.Client.CommandLine.exe.config
  • Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.Adapters.Crm40.Configuration.exe.config
  • Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.Adapters.DynamicCrm.Configuration.exe.config
  • Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.Client.exe.config

Note that these files may appear without the .config extension in Windows Explorer, making them appear as .exe files.

In each of these files, add or edit this element:

<add name=”Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.TraceLog” value=”4″/>

This element should be in the system.diagnostics -> switches section:

<add name=”Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.TraceLog” value=”4″/>

Once this is complete, restart the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics Service.

The log files will appear in C:ProgramDataMicrosoft DynamicsConnector for Microsoft DynamicsLogs.
