Using SuiteAnalytics to View Account Data

By - October 9, 2024

NetSuite offers a powerful analytical tool that is available in your environment, SuiteAnalytics. Users can leverage this tool to create customized workbooks and datasets, tables, pivot tables and charts for faster and better reporting. One key feature of SuiteAnalytics is that the data source is designed to ensure that fields are consistently exposed in the workbooks. This is a key differentiator from saved searches, as users have often come across fields that cannot be accessed via saved search. This document will showcase how a SuiteAnalytics dataset can be used to pull account record fields that cannot be referenced in a saved search. Users can apply this knowledge to other datasets as well.

First, navigate to the Analytics tab on the center of the page: Navigate to the Analytics Tab in NetSuite

Once there, you can toggle between workbooks or datasets. Datasets are the basis for all workbooks. You can combine fields and criteria filters to create a query with a dataset. The results of the query act as the source data for a workbook. Workbooks are where you analyze results of your dataset using tables, chart, or other visual aids. In our example, click on the Dataset tab, then click New Dataset: Creating a New Dataset

There are a plethora of datasets available. These are the root record of the dataset. The record type selected here will determine the record types and fields you can join to the dataset. Let’s click on the Account dataset:  Setting Up an Account Dataset Record Type

Once selected, users can add nearly every field that is displayed on the account record. Fields such as, Revalue Open Balance for Foreign Currency Transactions, are not available via saved search. However, we can access them using SuiteAnalytics: Accessing Revalue Open Balance for Foreign Currency Transactions in SuiteAnalytics

Furthermore, the data can be filtered and sorted directly from the dataset, prior to being exported to excel. You can sort by account number descending, for example, by clicking the three dots next to each column.  Sorting Dataset by Clicking the Three Dots Next to Columns

The SuiteAnalytics datasets are a powerful tool that can be used in a variety of scenarios. If you’d like to learn how to leverage this tool for your business, please reach out to our team at RSM!
