The latest Alteryx enhancements will save you and your clients time so they can get more done in their day. This blog post will provide highlights on the latest and greatest features in Alteryx designer and server 2024.2.
New Alteryx designer tools and examples
The rank tool
The rank tool is the newest addition to the preparation tool palette that has built-in ranking functionality. With options such as ordinal, dense, standard, modified competition and fractional ranking, data can be ranked quickly and accurately.
The expect equal tool
One tool example is now available for the expect equal tool. Learn how to match data streams and what to do when values or fields do not match.
New Alteryx designer tool updates
The multifield and multirow formulas now have the same expression editor as the formula and filter tools.
The output data tool has a new option that allows you to suppress the output of data if the output data tool doesn’t receive any data.
The record ID tool allows you to group your data by column.
The cross tab tool gives the option to retain special characters in column/field names instead of automatically converting to underscores.
The formula tool has three new functions:
- UnicodeNormalize: Converts strings into a standardized Unicode form
- UrlEncodeUTF8: Encodes a string using the RFC 3986 compliant percent-encoding
- Time zone parameter: Converts results to the named time zone in the formula
Alteryx designer enhancements
Marketplace add-ons is no longer in beta! All Alteryx-supported data connectors are now accessible with marketplace add-ons.
Tool configuration is made easier with the ability to save a tool’s configuration. Simply configure the tool and select save as default. The next time the tool is used, it will default to the custom configuration.
Following the flow of data within the workflow is now easier! Organize workflows by customizing the color of connection lines between tools.
Containers now have multiline captions to save canvas space and allow users to review workflow faster.
Using AMP? Customize the tool palette with the AMP compatible tool palette preset and quickly display only AMP compatible tools.
Debugging in Alteryx designer is already easy to do. Use the debug mode now with all workflows, not just AMP workflows.
New Alteryx server features
UI filter and sort capabilities improved for workflows, schedules and jobs for both admin and non-admin users.
Workflows recently uploaded will now be listed when adding a workflow to a collection.
The system settings window now has resizing options. Maximize or minimize using the newly added buttons at the top right corner of the window.
Two new admin options have been added in server settings: “Cancel scheduled jobs running longer than …” and “cancel manual jobs running longer than ….” These options allow admins to specify timeout values after jobs get canceled.
Shifting from data connections to DCM connections is now simplified. Migrating all data connections and respective workflows to be replaced by DCM connections is now possible.
Admins can now control the way workflows are published, either publicly or non publicly with the restrict public workflow (global) setting.
Clean up is made easier with bulk delete. It is now possible to delete workflows, workflow results, schedules and collections all at once.
Studios are staying in server. One user per studio is a new configuration setting for admins. Admins can turn off shared studios by limiting users in a studio to one. Now admins can easily transfer asset ownership by transferring workflows from one studio to another.
New Alteryx connectors
Google cloud storage data
Enables seamless integration with Google cloud storage and streamlines your interactions with files stored in Google cloud. This connector has OAuth and workload federated service options for authentication.
SingleStore
Newly supported data source by selecting ODBC or quick connect. SingleStore databases can now be integrated directly within the platform. For environments using Kerberos authentication, this connector supports username/password, JWT and a no-authentication option for Kerberos authentication.
